The Meaning Behind the Name Colibri
A small being with great awareness.
At Colibri Circle, our name was chosen with deep intention. The colibri, or hummingbird, is one of nature’s smallest, most vibrant creatures, yet it carries a powerful spiritual message. It embodies the very essence of what we aim to offer through our retreats, spiritual journeys, and transformational guidance.
Why the colibri?
The hummingbird flies straight to the essence, just like we humans long to do on our inner journey. It seeks out the sweet nectar of life, effortlessly navigating obstacles and focusing only on what truly nourishes. Like the spiritual path, it’s not about speed but about purity of direction and alignment with purpose.
Uniquely, the hummingbird is the only bird that can fly in all directions: forwards, backwards, upwards, downwards, and even hover in stillness. This represents conscious movement, the ability to return, pause, or shift with grace. In a world that constantly pushes forward, the colibri reminds us that standing still can be the most courageous act of all.
A mirror for your inner path
The colibri is also a deeply sensitive creature. If the energy of a place feels out of harmony, it leaves. It cannot be forced and always chooses alignment. That sensitivity makes it a powerful guide for those on a path of intuitive development, emotional healing, and living in connection with the heart.
Despite its size, the hummingbird is capable of incredible endurance. Some species migrate from South America to Canada and back each year, a feat of pure intention and trust. It teaches us that it’s not the size of our wings that matters, but the strength of our spirit.
The spiritual symbolism of the hummingbird
In many indigenous cultures, the colibri represents:
- transformation
- lightness of being
- resilience and adaptability
- self protection and clear boundaries
- fearless heart based living
It reminds us that it’s okay to protect our space. That we are allowed to stand strong in our truth, and that life is full of hidden nectar, if we dare to slow down, listen within, and trust the unfolding of our path.
At Colibri Circle, we believe everyone has the ability to find their own nectar. The colibri calls us to open our hearts, follow our intuition, release what no longer serves, and begin the journey inward.
